My perspective has been shaped by years of observing how people live in, move through, and experience residential spaces.

I’m Wendy Burdett, founder of Design Essentials PNW.

Design Essentials PNW is a creative studio focused on foundational residential design, space planning, design review, and decision support.

My work sits at the intersection of interiors, construction, merchandising, and visual storytelling. I’ve spent much of my career looking at homes before they are finished — studying how rooms connect, how people move through space, where decisions create friction, and what needs to be clarified before style takes over.

Design Essentials PNW was created from that perspective.

I help homeowners, builders, architects, and creative teams look at a space through a foundational lens — before finishes, furnishings, or styling become the focus.

Because good design does not begin with a paint color, a sofa, or a pretty fixture.

It begins with understanding how a space needs to work.

What This Experience Taught Me

The most successful spaces are not just well styled. They are well considered.

Flow, scale, proportion, circulation, and clarity all shape how a home feels long before the final layers are added.

A beautiful room can still feel wrong if the layout is fighting the way people live.

A home can have strong finishes and still lack connection.

And sometimes the most important design decision is not what to add — it is what to reconsider first.

That is where my work begins.

Through Design Essentials PNW, I help identify what is working, what is not, and what needs to be adjusted so the next decisions have a stronger foundation.

Career Highlights

My background includes model home merchandising, residential design, construction coordination, visual presentation, styling, and creative direction.

I have worked on residential environments for national homebuilders, supported projects through planning and presentation stages, and served as Art Director / Design Stylist for HGTV’s Restored, Season 1.

Those experiences continue to shape the way I approach design today — with attention to structure, story, function, and how people experience a space in real life.
